Murano glass returns to illuminate St. Mark’s Square with the third edition of Murano Illumina il Mondo, the exhibition project that shines a spotlight on the Island of Murano through the successful partnership between glassmaking and contemporary art. The initiative is promoted and organized by the City of Venice and The Venice Glass Week, with the financial support of the Pentagram Stiftung and the Venice Rovigo Chamber of Commerce, through its Special Agency “Opportunità e Mercati.”
Throughout the winter season, from 21 November 2025 to 1 March 2026, twelve magnificent chandeliers—created through collaborations between internationally renowned artists and some of the most prestigious Murano glass furnaces—will light up every evening in the world’s most beautiful “living room,” beneath the arches of the Procuratie Vecchie in St. Mark’s Square. The selected artists were invited to reinterpret an everyday object, the chandelier, together with some of Murano’s most talented master glassmakers, celebrated for their extraordinary technical skills, centuries-old techniques, and innovative experimentation.

Ru Xiao Fan, together with Effetre and Seguso Gianni, gives life to Inside/Outside, a chandelier shaped like a cage in which some birds remain imprisoned while others take flight. The work reflects on the choice between safety and freedom, evoking the myth of Eden and the “invisible cages” of the present: leaving behind the illusion of protection requires courage, but only those who dare to take risks can discover the true meaning of flight.
Libres Figurations – Années 80 rassemble plus de cinquante artistes emblématiques du courant artistique international qui s’est répandu à la fin des années 1970 et au début des années 1980 sous les appellations de Figuration libre en France, Graffiti aux Etats-Unis, Neue Wilde Malerei en Allemagne, Les Nouveaux Artistes en URSS… Libres Figurations – Années 80 raconte les épisodes de cette histoire et constitue un rare témoignage sur cet art non académique, souvent provocant, fun, inspiré de la culture populaire, né dans la rue, dans les clubs, dans les revues autant que dans les ateliers et qui entretient un lien très fort avec la scène rock, punk, la BD, les comics et les médias. Ce livre, très richement illustré, suit le parcours de l’exposition Libres Figurations – Années 80, présentée au Fonds Hélène & Edouard Leclerc pour la Culture du 10 décembre 2017 au 2 avril 2018. Il comprend un texte de Pascale Le Thorel, commissaire de l’exposition, un entretien de Michel-Edouard Leclerc et Pascale Le Thorel avec Ben, qui a donné son nom au mouvement français, un texte de Marc Sanchez, “L’Air du temps, Figuration libre en France”. Il présente chaque artiste ou groupe et inclut des entretiens inédits avec les artistes et avec Paquita Escofet Miro ou Tony Shafrazi, leurs accompagnateurs sur la scène russe ou américaine. Avec plus de deux cents reproductions d’œuvres et plus de cent cinquante portraits et documents d’archives réunis pour la première fois, Libres Figurations – Années 80 constitue un ouvrage de référence inédit et exceptionnel.
